Remembering those who gave all

Memorial Day may have become many things: backyard barbecues the unofficial start of summer. But with all the fun, let us not forget the solemn focus on this day of remembering those who gave all.

The flags that fly on this day are because of the sacrifices of fathers, grandfathers, great grandfathers , uncles and brothers who died on the battlefields, the oceans and in the air. Let us not forget the sacrifices of mothers, grandmothers, great grandmothers , aunts and sisters who also paid the ultimate price in those theaters of battle.

We remember those who died in action and those who passed on after returning to civilian life. Their legacies are priceless.

We’re inspired not by the color of their skin or background, but by their selflessness and humility. They lived and died showing true heroism: putting others before themselves.

It doesn’t matter whether our heroes served in the Navy, Marines, Army, Air Force or Coast Guard, their love of country unites them all.

Let us give thanks for God’s creation of men: protectors of family, and country. In them, God imbued the traits of physical strength ,courage, loyalty, duty and honor.

Have a blessed Memorial Day.
