California: God-forsaken or a mission field?

Hey.

I’m one of many Christians still living in California. I ask the question, Is California a God-forsaken place or a vast mission field?

Los Angeles

Yeah, Commiefornia, home of “LA LA Land”, “Hollyweird”, “San Franpsycho”, “Suckramento”, “Beserkly”, and the “People’s Republic of Santa Monica”. These leftist enclaves dominate California politics and have demonstrated they want nothing to do with God based on their assembly bills, propositions, and local ordinances.

California doesn’t just have a Democrat-controlled legislature, it has a wacko communist-socialist legislature that runs roughshod over a feckless and emasculated Republican Party. As a result, Cali is the embodiment of wasteful spending (bullet train to nowhere) excessive taxes, stunning homelessness, rising crime, and a crumbling education system.

Yep, the state is a leftist cauldron of madness. Corrupt authoritarians are free to indulge their inner communist with little to no opposition. Based on this reality, one would be justified saying the state is God-forsaken and certainly not a mission field.

So why would any Christian choose to stay in California? The simple answer: this is where God has placed us for now.

Grandchildren to live nearer to, out-of-state job opportunities , and retirement, these are some of the reasons my closest Christian brothers and sisters have left California. They are now living in states such Texas,Arizona and Florida.

Now I don’t fault them. In fact, I couldn’t be happier for them. I believe God has led my brethren according to His will and purposes, just as He has placed me and other God-fearing, Bible-believing Christians in California, for now

God-fearing and Bible-believing are important distinctions because when I speak of Christians, I am not referring to liberal denominations given over to doctrines of demons. I’m talking about those lovers of Christ who are ridiculed and despised because they believe the Bible is the inerrant Word of God that is just as worthy now as when each book was first written.

Because these “dangerous” Christians continue to populate this state, I do not believe it is God-forsaken. God has not completely abandoned California, because He promises never to leave or forsake his people.

For the LORD will not forsake his people; he will not abandon his heritage; for justice will return to the righteous and all the upright in heart will follow it. –Psalm 94:14-15 (English Standard Version)

God-fearing, Bible-believing Christians are the LORD’s people and His heritage. It is written that He will never abandon us and that justice will return to the righteous. This applies no matter where He has placed us, even in California.

Corrupt religious and civic officials, amoral politicians, high taxation, and the persecution of Christians have been the norm in this fallen world. Yet, the gospel of Jesus Christ changed lives then and continues to do so today.

The Christian church growth is exploding in far more hostile countries such as Iran and China and the continent of Africa. Why not California?

I believe California is a vast mission field that Christians shouldn’t write off. That the state looks insurmountable, as far as Godlessness goes, is every reason to testify about Jesus.

When is God most glorified? When the odds appear wholly in the enemy’s favor. Check out the parting of the Red Sea, the fall of Jericho, the story of David and Goliath, and the story of Gideon for some Biblical examples. For a more contemporary example, read about Israel in the Six-Day War of 1967.

Preaching the Christian gospel amid countries dominated by the hostile and murderous forces of Communism, Islam, and other pagan religions will drive even the weakest Christian to his knees in daily or even hourly fervent prayer. When a believer sees the growth of the body of Christ, despite intimidation, murder, imprisonment, and other terrorist tactics, that is a testament to the glory of God.

What’s the worse we face in California? Politicians use ordinances against us, people slandering us as bigots, severed friendships, bad press, and maybe the occasional act of vandalism. No threats of death, beatings, or imprisonment; just people hating on us. Maybe we got this if we make up our minds to step up and obey whatever God is calling us to do.

Remember, nothing can stand against the power of God carried out through the Son, Jesus. Not even the liberal leftist mecca that is California.

Califonia is not God-forsaken as long as God -fearing Christians live here. For now, this state is a vast mission field.

Well written. I have wondered why I am still here, but God has kept me and my family here for His purpose. May we continue to be a blessing in this mission field.

Dex,
I gotta say that while what you have written is hard to internalize, I do believe with my mind that California is still “save-able” with God’s power, but deep down the butterflies in my stomach push me the other direction. I fear the fire/hailstones coming down like in the time of Lot! That being said, Jesus said it will be hard following Him, and that the world will hate us because of our relationship with Him. Until our time is up and Jesus returns, we must push on towards the goal, even while dwelling with these rich commie manipulators “north of Richmond”.

Absolutely enjoyed reading your most frequent post—especially as I am currently traversing this State North and South, East and West. I’ve been to a lot of states. I can’t imagine one in the nation that has more abundant resources than California to serve the people of our great Republic. Does God know this? Of course He does. Is it difficult living here in CA as a Christian in this metropolis of absurdity and upside down truth? Of course it is! Thanks be to God to give us (Son)days to rest and reflect on the word of God for which you most eloquently expressed. These are the days that ground us as Christians and give us the strength to lead by examples in Christ to those who are unaware that through Him, there is everlasting life. I know, nobody likes to bible thump and evangelicalize like an Oklahoma Babtist, but us Californians must discern and recognize opportunities in our conversations with nonbelievers and lead by example. People in their core desire to have this inner peace. Christians of California can show them the way.
