Happy New Year and thank You

Happy New Year and thank you. As we begin 2025, I would like to express a heartfelt and sincere thank you for your support of the Discerning Pundit.

Thank you for reading and sharing these columns. It is much appreciated.

To say 2024 has been a whirlwind year is an understatement. With all that has occurred, from the Presidential campaign, to the two assassination attempts against President Trump, to the elation of an election night win, the holiday spirit has, strangely, been the last thing on my mind.

But thank God, Jesus is the source of our joy, and that our Heavenly Father hears and answers our prayers. Praise the Lord a majority of Americans re-elected President Trump in a landslide for a total and complete victory.

While God answered prayer, keeping Trump safe and this country from collapsing –despite the best efforts of the Biden Administration-I can’t help thinking the real work is beginning.

America is on the ropes and without a shared Christian moral foundation, too many people are easily seduced by lies and fables. Why else do you think woke, DEI and even the plandemic were able to gain prominence?

Christians must dedicate unceasing prayer for America, Congress, the Supreme Court, the Trump Administration, governors , mayors , legislatures and city councils. On another level, Christians must also launch imprecatory prayers against wicked policies on both sides of the aisle and the puppet masters pulling the strings behind the scenes.

Washington was not only built on a swamp, its environment and politics is a swamp of corruption and waste.

As Trump now sees Washington and politicians in a different light than during his first term, we must also view things from a new paradigm.

First, we no longer have the luxury of complacency. The days of farming out our liberty to politicians , whether “D” or “R” , are over.

Here’s a word to memorize: scrutiny. It means a close watch or examination. This is a word we must always associate with politicians from now and forever.

You might understand it better as paying attention to how these hacks vote, rather than falling for what they say. We must figuratively grab their feet and hold it to the fire.

Before you dismiss me for spouting a cliche, keep in mind this is from a Christian perspective. When talking about fire, I’m speaking of God spiritually burning away every deception keeping us from the truth.

That’s the job of this blog: commenting on current events using a Biblical perspective. My mission is helping you discern truth from deception.

So happy New Year and thank you for your support. May 2025 be the year you take your prayer and study of Scripture to an entirely new level.

Imprecatory prayer against America’s enemies: Psalm 35

This is the first of a series of prayers against the enemies of God and of the country. I encourage you to include these verses in your prayers.

Contend, O Lord, with those who contend with me;
    fight against those who fight against me!
Take hold of shield and buckler
    and rise for my help!
Draw the spear and javelin[a]
    against my pursuers!
Say to my soul,
    “I am your salvation!”Let them be put to shame and dishonor
    who seek after my life!
Let them be turned back and disappointed
    who devise evil against me!
Let them be like chaff before the wind,
    with the angel of the Lord driving them away!
Let their way be dark and slippery,
    with the angel of the Lord pursuing them!For without cause they hid their net for me;
    without cause they dug a pit for my life.[b]
Let destruction come upon him when he does not know it!
And let the net that he hid ensnare him;
    let him fall into it—to his destruction!Then my soul will rejoice in the Lord,
    exulting in his salvation.
10 All my bones shall say,
    “O Lord, who is like you,
delivering the poor
    from him who is too strong for him,
    the poor and needy from him who robs him?”11 Malicious[c] witnesses rise up;
    they ask me of things that I do not know.
12 They repay me evil for good;
    my soul is bereft.[d]
13 But I, when they were sick—
    I wore sackcloth;
    I afflicted myself with fasting;
I prayed with head bowed[e] on my chest.
14     I went about as though I grieved for my friend or my brother;
as one who laments his mother,
    I bowed down in mourning.15 But at my stumbling they rejoiced and gathered;
    they gathered together against me;
wretches whom I did not know
    tore at me without ceasing;
16 like profane mockers at a feast,[f]
    they gnash at me with their teeth.17 How long, O Lord, will you look on?
    Rescue me from their destruction,
    my precious life from the lions!
18 I will thank you in the great congregation;
    in the mighty throng I will praise you.19 Let not those rejoice over me
    who are wrongfully my foes,
and let not those wink the eye
    who hate me without cause.
20 For they do not speak peace,
    but against those who are quiet in the land
    they devise words of deceit.
21 They open wide their mouths against me;
    they say, “Aha, Aha!
    Our eyes have seen it!”22 You have seen, O Lord; be not silent!
    O Lord, be not far from me!
23 Awake and rouse yourself for my vindication,
    for my cause, my God and my Lord!
24 Vindicate me, O Lord, my God,
    according to your righteousness,
    and let them not rejoice over me!
25 Let them not say in their hearts,
    “Aha, our heart’s desire!”
Let them not say, “We have swallowed him up.”26 Let them be put to shame and disappointed altogether
    who rejoice at my calamity!
Let them be clothed with shame and dishonor
    who magnify themselves against me!27 Let those who delight in my righteousness
    shout for joy and be glad
    and say evermore,
“Great is the Lord,
    who delights in the welfare of his servant!”
28 Then my tongue shall tell of your righteousness
    and of your praise all the day long.
