Fear God, not man

There’s plenty to fear in our current world: wars, rumors of war, pandemics, rising crime rates and invasion at our souther border.  Yet the Bible tells us  to fear not. Simply put, when we fear God, not man, our Heavenly Father blesses us with peace and wisdom.

The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom,
and the knowledge of the Holy One is insight.–Proverbs 9:10
(English Standard Version)

If the fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, what does the fear of man yield?

The fear of man lays a snare, but whoever trusts in the LORD is safe. –Proverbs 29:25 (ESV)

The American Heritage dictionary defines a snare as: 1.A trapping device, often consisting of a noose, used for capturing birds and small mammals. 2. Something that lures or entangles the unwary.

When a snare catches an animal , the noose tightens as it struggles to get away. This provides a perfect metaphor for fearing man.

How does the fear of man snare people? Worrying what people think or say about us can cause us to stay silent when we should witness or defend our faith in Jesus. You may even decline to stand against evil due to worries of loss of livelihood, reputation, or even your life.

The reality is we are compliant to what we fear. Yes, we obeyed our parents as children our of respect, but mostly because we feared the consequences of the belt or grounding.

Remember also as a child going along with your group of friends because of peer pressure? We did so out of fear of ostracism.

I’d like to now revisit a situation in recent history in which all the fears mentioned above were encapsulated into a single, surreal event: the Covid pandemic . As you will see, this was a snare on many levels.

Many of us lost loved ones due to Covid, which was terrible and tragic. The elderly and those with chronic chronic conditions were most at risk. Yet ,instead of focusing on those who were at risk, government aided by the media chose to frighten every citizen out of their minds.

Numbers were inflated by hospitals . People who died in car accidents or had heart attacks, etc were said to have died of Covid if they even had a trace of the virus at the time of their death. This practice only aided in the panic.

Infected elderly people were returned to nursing homes under orders by health officials, leading to more deaths and inflating the death toll. This was largely ignored by the press, who instead focused on stories of food and toilet paper shortages, overwhelmed emergency rooms or how Covid would affect the incumbent president’s reelection. If this wasn’t bad enough, one news outlet had a Covid death ticker running during each broadcast.

People did anything they could to get out of that snare, as indicated by their blind allegiance to every arbitrary government edict. Many comforted themselves they were doing good and protecting elderly loved ones as they surrendered to tyranny.

People wore masks everywhere, even when walking with their spouse in the park, or driving alone. They stayed six feet apart even though the rule was unscientific.

Families hunkered down, isolating themselves from friends and loved ones. Many parents didn’t pushback against schools shutting down; forcing their kids to learn via Zoom. Many Christians stopped going to church due to fears of catching the virus.

On the other hand, many God-fearing Christians chose freedom over authoritarianism.  They resolved not to live in fear, because they believe God determines their calling into heaven. If Covid was to be that opening of the door to eternity, then so be it.

These men and women continued social gatherings during the lockdowns. Despite following mask mandates early on , they later declined when reports came out questioning the effectiveness of the mandates (which recent reports have validated). These were men and women who walked into supermarkets unmasked and allowed their kids to have sleepovers with friends. Their fear of God trumped their fear of man.

So we can confidently say,“The Lord is my helper;I will not fear;
what can man do to me?”–Hebrews 13:6

Why did I spend a good part of this column revisiting Covid? We are in an election year in which certain forces do not want the return of a certain president. We’ll refer to him as DJT.

Covid coincidentally came just before 2020 presidential campaign, along with rioting in major cities. If this happened as a prelude to campaign season, what do you think these forces have planned in 2024? After all, this DJT is winning primaries and surging in polls? It’s not difficult to imagine.

Let me encourage you to fear not as wars, rumors of war, threats of future pandemics and terrorist attacks loom. Pray often, study your Bible, and trust in the peace and protection of the LORD through your faith in Jesus.

For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.–2 Timothy 1:7 (ESV)

If conviction reveals your fear of man as greater than your fear of God, take heart. You do not have to remain enslaved.

Jesus sets you free when you ask Him to be Lord and Savior of your life. Surrendering your life to God, though Jesus and the by the power of the Holy Spirit, reveals truth and takes away fear.

Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.–Romans 12:2 (ESV)

Now is the time to do this. I hope I am wrong, but I believe 2024 will be unlike any year in our lifetime. Those who keep their eyes on Jesus will be steadied by the power of the Holy Spirit no matter what happens. Therefore, we can encourage others to fear God, not man

Is Paramount erasing Captain Kirk?

Is Paramount Entertainment erasing Captain Kirk? The iconic William Shatner recently made the case on social media the answer is yes .

Why? Shatner says the character threatens the studio’s modern sensibilities.

William Shatner

A fan asked the 92 year old actor on whether Paramount Studios will reprise the role of Captain James T. Kirk .

“All you have to do is look at the Paramount+ graphics to answer that question,” he replied, with an image of Star Trek promotional material with current and classic characters, minus Captain Kirk.

Seriously, Paramount has a problem with having William Shatner in their promotions?William “Freaking” Shatner?

Perhaps it was an honest oversight leaving James Tiberius Kirk out of these ads? I doubt it.

Woke madness is tyrannical in nature , therefore a legendary icon like the heroic, swashbuckling and very masculine Kirk is a threat to “modern” sensibilities. After all wokeism, abhors traditional masculinity.

Traditional masculinity instills in men a hatred of bullies, no matter the nomenclature it hides itself under . Wokeism must constantly attack or censor masculinity as racist, sexist, or homophobic to prevent any man from gaining inspiration from it.

This includes the mission of erasing classic heroes of yesteryear from today’s pop culture consciousness. Shatner added “It’s not the first time it’s been going on for years. It makes no difference to me that a group who think they are ‘enlightened’ (or whatever they think they are) obviously feels threatened by the Kirk character. It’s a character from a 1960’s TV show- get over it.”

Sorry , but every other captain in the franchise pales in comparison to the swagger and coolness of the intrepid Kirk. Fact: Without Shatner’s iconic portrayal of Captain Kirk the Star Trek franchise would not exist, and many fans agree.

Here’s how one X poster fixed the Paramount promotional ad:

Still, Shatner’s reaction to Paramount’s erasure campaign is …shall we say… Kirkian?

“It doesn’t bother me in the least. A bunch of self-righteous strangers thinking they are sending a message by erasing the past? Who is going to forget? It’s everywhere. It’s so indoctrinated that it will take many generations to be forgotten no matter what they do. Let it be.”

Is Paramount erasing Captain Kirk? The evidence seems to show the affirmative.

Shame on you Paramount.

Could God ignore your prayers?

Could God ignore your prayers for others or the country?  Could He even make it His mission to oppose your plans?

All it takes is pride to become God’s adversary. Why? God hates pride.

The type of pride we’re talking is not that of job well done or of others. No , the pride that separates us from our Heavenly Father is thinking too highly of ourselves above all others.

The danger for Christians is puffed-up thinking because of one’s position in Christ, or spiritual gifts they’ve been blessed with. This is represented in the parable of the Pharisee and the tax collector in Luke 18:9-14 (New International Version):

To some who were confident of their own righteousness and looked down on everyone else, Jesus told this parable: 10 “Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. 11 The Pharisee stood by himself and prayed: ‘God, I thank you that I am not like other people—robbers, evildoers, adulterers—or even like this tax collector. 12 I fast twice a week and give a tenth of all I get.’

13 “But the tax collector stood at a distance. He would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said, ‘God, have mercy on me, a sinner.’

14 “I tell you that this man, rather than the other, went home justified before God. For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”

Note the last verse: “For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”  This means God will humble any believer who exalts himself and lift up the humble person who has a truthful view of himself.

Few churches teach that God could ignore your prayers and literally war with you because of pride.   Just read James 4:6 (NIV):

“God opposes the proud
but shows favor to the humble.”

C.S. Lewis said of pride :

C.S. Lewis

“According to  Christian teachers, the essential vice, the utmost evil is Pride. Unchastity, anger, greed, drunkenness, and all that, are mere fleabites in comparison: it was through Pride that the devil became the devil: Pride leads to every other vice: it is the complete anti-God state of mind.”1

Why does pride lead “to ever other vice?”  Pride says my needs come first and therefore elevates me above everyone, including people and God.

We are emulating the devil with haughty eyes and a proud heart  (Proverbs 21:4-24).  Instead of reflecting God’s light, the devil darkens us. This is the reason “pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall.” (Proverbs 16-18).

The opposite of pride is humility, and we must humble ourselves, as Jesus did, to be children of God. This means becoming a servant to others instead of expecting others to serve you. In other words, placing the needs of others above your own.  Isn’t that what Jesus did when He walked the earth?

Humility is confessing your sins and repenting to the LORD, asking God every day to make you more like Jesus , and asking God to answer prayer according to His will.  When we humble ourselves in this manner, we can have confidence God hears our prayers for family, friends, country, enemies and ourselves.

Seek humility as if your life depends on it, because it does.  Do not conform yourself  any longer to this world with exalts pride as virtue. God promises to lift us up in due time when we come to Him with brokenness. He offers only resistance to those arrogant in their own eyes.

Trump wins Iowa Caucus…by landslide

President Donald Trump wins the Iowa Caucus…. by landslide As of this writing Ron DeSantis and Nikki Haley are battling for second place: a very distant second place.

Trump won 98 of 99 counties in Iowa in the first vote of the 2024 Presidential campaign; not only crushing the competition, but causing Vivek Ramaswamy to suspend his campaign. Ramaswamy will throw his support behind Trump.

President Trump spoke to the crowd after the victory:

The question now is with Trump’s margin of victory, why is there even a race for second place? Wouldn’t it make sense for the candidates and the Republican National Committee to consolidate resources behind the obvious frontrunner? These are questions the voters are asking and the RNC is pretending to ignore.

On to New Hampshire…

What’s with Disney?

What’s with Disney?

The studio, started by Walt Disney, celebrated its 100th Anniversary in 2023, and what did it give the public in gratitude?   That’s right, flops.

Why were these movies all box office duds? I dunno, maybe it was because of race-swapped classic characters, girl bosses and other woke propaganda?

Ant-Man:Quantamania… FLOP. Disney’s The Little Mermaid (Live action remake)… FLOP. Wish … FLOP. Peter Pan and Wendy…FLOP. Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny… FLOP. The Marvels…huge FLOP.

The only movie that did well was Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 3, but even it made less at the box office than the first two films in the trilogy. Why was GOTG 3 a success? No woke politics in the film, just a good story featuring characters the movie-going public enjoy; no more, no less.

You would think after the box office disaster that was 2023 , Disney would rethink its obsession with woke storylines in their movies. After all, the studio lost billions.

Instead, Disney seems intent on doubling down. Case in point, the recent announcement of a new Star Wars movie , continuing the adventures of Rey Skywalker.  Maybe Disney is unaware of fans who checked-out in droves after the last trilogy which featured the divisive The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker.  Oh well, perhaps Disney thinks this latest offering will bring back the fans since it will be directed by a woman… of color.

Yeah, that’ll do it.

Seriously, is Disney really this stupid?

Let me posit a theory that’s been cooking in the back of my mind for the past year or two: what if this Disney implosion is planned?

Consider that Disney has ruined two of the most successful intellectual properties (IPs) in cinema history: Star Wars and Marvel.  What did these two franchises have in common? They both told stories featuring epic heroes and stakes.

Star Wars has entertained generations of fans since its premiere in 1977.  Marvel Comics became a cultural phenomenon in 1961 with the debut of the Fantastic Four, by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. A year later, Lee and Steve Ditko created Spider-Man and the rest is history.

Remember when fans couldn’t wait for the latest Star Wars or Marvel release?  Not anymore. Under the Disney rubric, both brands have been so thoroughly ruined they’ve become objects of  scorn to their once devoted consumers.

Woke politics has destroyed both IPs. As President Donald Trump once famously said, “Everything woke turns to s**t.” The moviegoing public has spoken, loudly and consistently, its rejection of woke characters and plotlines; leading to billions in losses for Disney.

Once upon a time, America revered Disney Studios . They created timeless classics still enjoyed by the public decades later, such as: Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, Pinocchio, Bambi, Dumbo, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Peter Pan, Mary Poppins, and the Jungle Book. Disney films were once the gold standard of entertainment, offering viewers escapism through stories of love, tragedy, perseverance, adventure, heroism and whimsy. Now, the public is losing trust in the Disney brand.

Disney sucks and it’s across the board.

Again, I have to ask, is this intentional?  For decades, Disney was a symbol of Americana, right up there with baseball, hot dogs, apple pie and the American flag.  Americana is aspects of shared culture that makes, or made America unique in the world.  The word Americana evokes commonality and nostalgia for times gone by.

We no longer celebrate what once was, because Marxist/communist radical elements in our education, government and entertainment have tied our past to nothing but racism, sexism, discrimination and homophobia. Subversives have conditioned at least two generations of young people to despise our past and everything about America.

America used to be symbolized by rugged individualism, strength and innovation. Now our symbols are frailty, weakness and incompetence as manifested in the person of our current president.  Our rule of law has been turned against the people , our educational system is failing minorities and propagandizing young -adults.

The so-called experts have muddied the waters so much there are no heroic symbols of American masculinity or femininity. Pop culture tells us the only heroes we’re told to worship are those who represent diversity, inclusion and equity (DIE). They call it DEI, I call it DIE

Based on this destruction of American culture and ideals, is it out of the realm of possibility the enemies of our nation and the world have made it their goal to destroy Disney in the hearts of the American public?   Chris Gore and Alan Ng of Film Threat report at Disney it’s all about woke activism rather than talent.

So again, what’s with Disney?  Once the gold standard for animation and family entertainment, now it’s bloated, devoid of original ideas and apparently tone deaf to what the public wants.  It’s really a shame and I sincerely hope they wake up from woke.

How conservatives should handle the media

Apologies. I don’t know how I missed this one.

Pierre Poilievre  is running to replace Justin Trudeau as Canadian Prime Minister and did this media interview two months ago. If you’ve seen it , great. If not , what you are about to see is a textbook study of how conservatives should handle the media.

First, note the apple , which Poilievre continues to eat during the interview. He looks calm and relaxed as he is enjoying the apple.  Even his tone is casual.

Pay attention to his deft handling of the narrative- based questions he gets from the reporter.  He doesn’t allow himself to participate in the gotcha game. Instead, Poilievre questions the interviewer, asking the interviewer what his questions mean.

Bravo!

I hope this guy wins big. I am married to a Canadian woman , so I have soft spot for our northern neighbors.

Intellectual Froglegs: “RINO SEASON”

“RINO Season,” the latest from Joe Dan Gorman’s, Intellectual Froglegs has dropped.  Check it out! In my humble opinion, this is one of his best episodes.

If you’ve never watched Intellectual Froglegs before, it interweaves, headlines, spot-on political commentary, humor, great music and Christian faith.  All of this is done in quick cuts and longer segments.  Throughout, Mr. Gorman’s information makes you laugh, encourages your love for God and America, and makes you think.

Highlights of this installment, include Joe Dan’s interview with Dr. Naomi Wolf, who discusses her red-pill moment, calling out the Republican National Committee (RNC) for continuing to support Chairman Ronna McDaniel ( aka, RINO Senator Mitt Romney’s niece. Nepotism? Nah!!), and reminding you of the stakes of the 2024 Presidential Election.

For New York Times readers, RINO means Republican In Name Only. Anyway, would love to read your thoughts about the show.

Bret Weinstein discusses WHO agenda with Tucker Carlson

In Tucker Carlson’ s latest show, he and Bret Weinstein discuss the agenda of the World Health Organization (WHO). An important part of that plan is superseding the laws of sovereign nations under the premise of a health emergency.

We saw that play out during the Covid pandemic with WHO guidelines trumping Constitutional rights. Weinstein describes a West that is an echo of  its former self because of acquiescence to the dark global agenda. However, he points out there is pushback from Eastern Bloc countries who know totalitarianism when they see it.

Weinstein describes “a powerful set of forces” embedded in the World Economic Forum (WEF) and within Western governments who are discussing ways to eliminate “our national and personal sovereignty.”   While most of this excellent interview is troubling, Weinstein ends with a powerful glimmer of hope.

SCOTUS to hear Colorado case to remove Trump from ballot

The Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS) agreed on Friday to take up the Colorado case to remove President Donald Trump off the ballot due to the 14th Amendment. The court’s decision will have lasting ramifications in future efforts by the Democrats to keep the 45th President off of other state ballots.

The Colorado Supreme Court ‘removed’ Trump from the ballot in December for ‘inciting’ the January 6 ‘insurrection’ under the 14th Amendment.  Critics of the Colorado court say the ruling is nothing more than election interference since Trump was never convicted for insurrection. More on that later.

Here is what insurrection clause of the 14th Amendment explicitly states:

Section 3.

No person shall be a Senator or Representative in Congress, or elector of President and Vice President, or hold any office, civil or military, under the United States, or under any state, who, having previously taken an oath, as a member of Congress, or as an officer of the United States, or as a member of any state legislature, or as an executive or judicial officer of any state, to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof. But Congress may by a vote of two-thirds of each House, remove such disability.

As you can see from the language, the 14th Amendment applies to congresspersons, officers of the United States government, state assemblypersons, governors or judges.  Nowhere is the President mentioned. Legal scholars say the 14th Amendment does not apply to the President because he is not an officer of the government and, in this case, was never found guilty of insurrection for the January 6 protest /riot.

If Trump was never found liable for inciting insurrection, then the legal basis from removing him from the ballot is questionable. You can’t penalize someone for an accusation without a conviction as Colorado, and later, Maine did. That makes a mockery of the law.

Arguments to SCOTUS will start on February 8 with a ruling following. Trump remains on both ballots pending litigation, in the meantime.

Please note the Colorado ruling was without teeth, playing both sides by allowing Trump back on the ballot as soon as he appealed to the Supreme Court.  See this brilliant analysis by Sundance at the Conservative Treehouse.
